Education

We support educational programs that promote success in the areas of math, science and technology. Additionally, we fund educational opportunities that also help to support environmental stewardship in the areas of conservation, habitat restoration and energy efficiency.

UCSD San Diego Foundation/ Birch Aquarium at Scripps

Through a partnership with the Birch Aquarium, the Sempra Energy Foundation provides funding for the Boundless Energy Program. As part of this program, the aquarium has an exhibit which showcases renewable, clean energy technologies to educate the public and school children about efficacy and possible uses for types of non-fossil-fuel energy generation.

Cameron Parish School Board:

The Sempra Energy Foundation funded the Sowing Seeds for the Future program which taught students of all ages the life skills of gardening for both food and landscaping purposes. In addition, measuring and chemistry skills were taught through the various vegetable gardens and landscaping projects.

Mind Research Institute:

This grant provided funding for the Los Angeles Math Initiative. This program is designed to help teachers elevate student math achievement at the lowest performing schools in Los Angeles County.

Desarrollo Comunitario:

The Sempra Energy Foundation provided support to Desarrollo Comunitario for computer lab upgrades at a community center in Ensenada, Mexico. The center is open to community members wishing to receive computer training at no cost.
